During the 2nd Berlin Bedrest study (#BBR2) the influence of intense Galileo Training on Creatine Kinase levels was investigated. During this study the participants had to stay in bed for 55 days. One control group did no training at all, the second resistance training. The Galileo group received identical resistance training (1.5 times body weight) + vibration only 6 * 1 minute and only 3 times per week. This sub-study focused on effects of Galileo Training on bone marrow fat-fraction of the spine as well as on blood composition.
Results show that in contrast to both control groups the Galileo group could decrease the fat-fraction of the bone marrow of the spine during the bed-rest phase as well as that effects on red blood cells (Erythrocytes) where highest in this group. This effect was even significantly increased 6 and 12 months after the end of the bed-rest (data not published yet).
Why are these results important? An increase of the number of red blood cells is a typical effects of endurance training (like high altitude training), and a reduction of the bone marrow fat-fraction is an indicator for decrease of the yellow marrow which usually results in an increase of the number of red blood cells – all in all this is one explanation for the positive effects of Galileo Training on endurance (# GRFS86, #GRFS33, #GRFS12, #GRFS11).
